An art gallery that focuses on showcasing the works of young up and coming artist in the Cape Town area.

The Design is located on the slopes of signal hill in Bo-Kaap. Taking inspiration from the famous Bo-kaap architecture, which was inspired by Dutch and Georgian Architecture with elements of Victorian designs, I intended on designing a space that has blended the traditional Bo-Kaap architecture in the surrounding context with contemporary architecture. These ideas led me to the design below, with a Victorian gable in a contemporary fashion, paying homage to the Victorian style with facade elements. The large glass walls on the street side wall with steel privacy screens allows for transparency inviting pedestrians into the gallery as well as allowing for natural light to flood the entrance space and reception. The Gallery space on the ground floor has high strip windows on either side of the building to allow for natural light. The top floor houses space for the staff kitchen and an office space as well as a rentable studio space for an artist to work with an outdoor studio space which has great views of the Mountains of the Cape. In future development of this project the abandoned house neighboring the gallery is to be renovated to become a living environment for budding artists while they can use the studio space.
